María Lorena Gutiérrez Botero, born in Bogotá, is an Industrial Engineer with a specialization in Finance from the Universidad de los Andes.
She earned an MBA from the Freeman School of Business at Tulane University (USA), and a Ph.D. in Business Administration with emphasis in Finance from the same university located in New Orleans, Louisiana.
She served as the Dean of the School of Business Administration of the Universidad de los Andes, as professor of finance, as Director of the Undergraduate Business Administration Program and as the School’s Secretary General.
She has also been a member of the EFMD Board of Directors, member of the Durham University International Advisory Board, President of the Alianza Iberoamericana Sumaq, and member of the Boards of Directors of CLADEA and BALAS (Business Association for Latin American Studies).
The new Minister was recognized as one of the top 100 leaders in Colombia in 2008; as one of the 10 outstanding young executives in Colombia awarded by the Junior Chamber of Commerce of Colombia, and as one of the most successful under-35 executives in Colombia by the Revista Dinero.
At the beginning of President Santos’ administration, María Lorena Gutiérrez served as Senior Presidential Advisor for Good Government, and later as Secretary General to the Presidency.
