Bogotá, July 14, 2015 (SIG).
This Tuesday, President Juan Manuel Santos described the agreement reached between six world powers and the Islamic Republic of Iran as a victory of diplomacy over confrontation, whereby Iran will limit its nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of the economic sanctions it was subject to.
Upon celebrating the announcement, the Colombian Head of State congratulated the President of the United States, Barack Obama, and the US Secretary of State, John Kerry, for their courage in reaching said agreement.
“This is another triumph of diplomacy over confrontation. I want to celebrate the agreement between Iran and the United States on the nuclear topic”, the Colombian President said.
Furthermore, he said: “I congratulate President Obama and Secretary Kerry for their courage in taking this step”.
President Santos highlighted that it is a verifiable agreement and that in case of an eventual breach, all necessary measures will be adopted.
“After all, as they said, this agreement is verifiable. If it is fulfilled, that’s perfect; if it’s not, proper measures will be adopted”, concluded the Colombian President.
The agreement was reached yesterday in Vienna (Austria), between Iran and the following countries: United States, China, Russia, France, the United Kingdom and Germany.
